Our 4K Sensors

DALSA - Sensor
To get the big picture you need for a big screen, use a big sensor. But DALSA's sensor is not only bigger, it's better. No other sensor, CCD or CMOS, approaches its performance.

“It is amazing what this beautiful 4K sensor can deliver in terms of uncompressed clarity and detail,” Eric Adkins, Cinematographer

Better pixels + more of them = better images.
In this case, bigger is better. Our 4K cameras' frame-transfer CCD allows you focus your image through real cine lenses onto 8.2 million high performance photosites. In designing the 4K sensor, DALSA drew on its 25+ years of experience developing the world's highest-performance image sensors and cameras. Our cameras benefit from dozens of patents our designers and our wafer foundry have earned, including our proprietary pigment process, which delivers the most precise, most stable color performance available. Our patented design and fabrication processes let each photosite combine superior charge capacity and lower noise. This gives us more dynamic range, which means much wider exposure latitude than any other cinematography sensor, CCD or CMOS.

Greater exposure latitude allows superior image quality, especially in difficult situations—light-starved night scenes as well as extremely bright scenes such as snow or backlit water. Our 4K cameras' exposure latitudes are comparable to the best film stocks and offers at least 12 stops of linear response for an astonishing range in the whites as well as the blacks. In one shot our cameras can handle both the naked flame of a candle and the delicate, nuanced shadows on candlelit faces. They can handle the full glare of the sun reflected from a window and still resolve the subtleties of the shadows below. When you light for profound effects, you'll appreciate our cameras' profound advantages.

Sensitivity. Our 4K cameras are rated at 250 ASA.

Frame rate. While our 4K cameras derive so many benefits from size, let's not forget frame rate. Unlike HD, DALSA's 4K sensor is not limited to a fixed frame rate. The cameras operate at a fully variable 0-30 frames per second.
